Character: Lailah
Age: Appearance in her 20s. Actual age believed to be a few thousand years.
Canon: Tales of Zestiria
Canon Point: Post-game.
Background: HERE
Personality:
Lailah may not look it but she has lived a very long time. This is a large part of her personality because as a result she is very wise and knowledgable. She knows many things about her world, its history, its lore and of everyday living in general. Her vast knowledge is something she is always willing to share and she enjoys teaching anyone wanting to learn and listen. Unfortunately this often gives way to her prattling on for a little too long and even the eager of learning might find it a little tedious to listen to. Her vast knowledge makes her more book smart than anything however she is not lacking in common sense either. She can "read the mood" quite well, as it were. Well, sometimes.
She is a very warmhearted individual with kindness to spare for everyone. She always wants to include others, quick to engage in conversations with new and old faces alike. She was ever eager to talk to Rose and Alisha even when she had no way of doing so right away. She's very polite and tends to mind her manners in all regards. She takes the bonds she makes with others quite seriously be it Sub-Lords or Shepards and so once she befriends someone you can be certain she'll stay true to that bond. She will want to get to know those she befriends although there is sometimes a distance she keeps between others depending on their behavior. Lailah carries herself in a very proper manner and is often concerned with keeping a "ladylike" appearance. This extends to others as she sometimes chastises Rose for acting "unladylike" and is exasperated with Zaveid for being so scandalous (aka shirtless) in front of ladies. You'll certainly never hear her swear or admit anything that might be even remotely considered "naughty".
Although she berates Sorey to not carry his burdens alone Lailah is often guilty of this very thing. Her oath keeps her from sharing information and so it also keeps her from sharing the burden of her troubles. As a result she sometimes seems to isolate herself although it's often because she has to and not because she wants to. Lailah is prone to worrying for others, especially Sorey, and wants to do what she can to help. However she knows when to put her foot down on situations that are beyond her (and the others) capabilities. She is the voice of reason in this regard and has to advise the group on numerous occasions that it is best to not stick their nose in certain affairs. Despite this logical reasoning Lailah is certainly not above helping others nor does she particularly enjoy having to turn away from those in need. She is simply very aware of her duties and responsibilities and those of the Shepard's as well. Helping everyone is simply not possible and she realizes this.
She is very mellow in both appearance and attitude. She is always aware of the next objective for the group and is usually the one to remind everyone where they should be heading next. She's acutely aware of the health of others as well, both mentally and physically. She is always the first to suggest a break from travel and is constantly urging everyone to get much needed rest when they can. In some ways Lailah can be a mother hen of the group but she is never overbearing. She offers advice and sound reasoning but she will always respect the decision made by others even if she is against it. She's very non-confrontational in general, tending to merely be the voice of reason but noting that the choice in such matters is ultimately up to the individual.
Although steadfast, mature and serious overall, especially when it comes to her responsibilities, Lailah has a much more quirky side to her. She's actually a bit of an oddball which is surprising given her first impressions of a regal lady. When topics she loves pops up in conversations she tends to get overzealous about it, anime sparkles and everything. Likewise she has a deep love for puns and uses them at every opportunity. And that does mean every opportunity. She loves using them so much that when her punchline is stolen she gets visibly dejected. She enjoys other various hobbies like making things out of paper and baking... and fusing equipment together. Whatever that is...
Overall Lailah is friendly and kind. Despite her long, long years of life she has not lost her love for it or the bonds she makes with others. She wants to take care of others to the best of her ability and remains optimistic about the future.
Abilities:
Lailah is a Seraph, an immortal being that were once the center of worship. Humans would pray to them in exchange to receive the Seraph's blessings. These blessings were able to keep the malevolence at bay and protect villages, towns and cities alike. Although this power is still within all Seraphs they are not as widespread as they once was as humans have begun to lose their faith. In general Seraph can take any shape they want (although most take a human form) and can even control the rate at which they age.
Specifically Lailah is a Fire Seraph and so her specialization is--you guessed it--fire based seraphic artes. She uses slips of paper as her weapon, often tossing them and then casting them on fire from afar to burn enemies. She's better at ranged to mid-range combat since her artes take time to cast. She can cast powerful all area attacks with her flames in additional to knockback attacks to keep enemies away. She can heal as well and raise defenses if need be.
With Sorey and Rose Lailah is able to preform armatization. By combining with them they are allowed to use their powers together, performing strong fire based attacks. Armatization with Lailah grants them use of a large double edged sword that they can swing around and use in conjunction with the fire artes.
Unique to Lailah is that she is a Primary Seraph. She is able to form contracts with other Seraph to make them Sub-Lords to her. She can also break this contract as needed. Through her as well does she grant humans the power to be the Shepard.
Alignment: Peromei [despair and hope] - Sorey has given her newfound hope both in the Shepard abilities and in his ability to heal the world. She has found this hope after the despair that was her past experience with the previous Shepard.
Other: In canon Lailah is a Seraphim which makes her invisible to most humans with only a few exceptions. For the sake of RP this will not be the case. She will be visible to everyone.
Sample:
Sidestepping quickly, Lailah nearly stumbled over her own feet. The man gave her a startled look and Lailah quickly bowed her head. "Oh, I'm so sorry! I wasn't looking where I was going, you see..."
The man shrugged and continued on his way. Lailah let out a breath. She was certainly not use to this at all. Humans being able to see her, having to walk down the street and try not to crash into people... all of this was actually a completely new experience to her. She usually spent her time within Sorey, after all. And even when she didn't she was usually invisible so it never mattered what part of the street she stood in. That part she had yet to truly understand but it was simply the way it was going to be, she supposed. It was a mystery for another time. Right now she had to take it in stride and make the best of it until she could find a way home.
Lailah continued down the street, trying to remain more aware of the people around her. I certainly hope Sorey and the others are all right. I don't sense anyone here. No other Seraphs and certainly not the Shepard himself. After the past few days of this she could only conclude they were all still back home. It was for the best, she knew... but it was also very worrisome. They would need her to go up against the Lord of Calamity. Not the mention it... was a bit lonely without any of them around. She had to get home as soon as possible and--
She stopped short. People were staring at her. She felt a little flustered when she noticed. Why were they staring...? Did she do something inappropriate? Sure, she wasn't use to being seen but she still always made sure to properly conduct herself so--
"...ah!" Lailah noticed it a little too late. Gloomy clouds had started to gather in a portion of the sky above her. She glanced up and for a moment she had to marvel at the strange sight of the patch of black clouds among the brilliant blue of the sky. .... Oh no.
Lailah lifted her hands, waving them frantically towards the clouds in the sky that she could, of course, not actually reach. "Wait! I didn't mean to be so gloomy!" Her pleas, of course, aren't heeded by the cloud. Only a second later did rain begin to pour and Lailah groaned. She kept forgetting about the way this world responded to her emotions. People had started to shuffle off at least as Lailah hung her head, feeling the water soak through her clothes and hair. How... unladylike...
"What a tough cloud. I guess that's why you're the raining champion." She paused before her face broke out into a grin. "Oh! That was a good one!"
She'll have to write that one down later and save it for... .... .... a rainy day.
